This is an extremely nice solid silver lidded sparrow beak Ewer or Jug by highly renown silversmith John James Keith, who is well known for his ecclesiastical silver items. The design is attributed to W Butterfield. John Keith has examples of his work in t...he Victoria & Albert museum and he won gold and silver medals at the 1851 great exhibition for his workmanship.This Ewer is 26cms (just under 10 1/2 inches) high and is of good weight at 408 grams. It is in extremely good condition with properly fitting/working lid, no repairs or engraving. There are two small dents to the main body (see photo). It is clearly hallmarked to the base for London 1847 with duty mark and makers mark for John James Keith. The lid has matching hallmarks.
