Offered for auction is a vintage Alvar Aalto armchair. It has an upholstered seat and back attached to two curving wood sides that form the arms and legs. the seat is cantilevered and has a nice give to it when you sit down. The upholstery seems to be in very good shape; it is soft and it bounces back. Maybe there are springs used instead of foam. Not sure. The wood arms have a nice patina to them that show their age. The wood has mellowed to a honey color, and there are some marks fro...m use over time. The arm/leg pieces are structurally sound. I removed one of them to see how the chair could be reupholstered, and found that the arm/leg pieces are attached with four wooden dowels. So these need to be replaced when the chair is put back together.
