What a delight to find a sampler whose colours have not faded! It is so difficult to imagine what many of these early textiles must have looked like, because we are so used to seeing muted colours.
And even better, the embroiderer has given us a lively composition. Dogs, Cherries, Sweets, Flowers, Chickens - perhaps a few of her favourite things! Probably dating to around 1840, 1850. There is some water staining as is so often the case, often due to condensation over years mainly o...n the left and right sides, but this does not detract from the colourful and lively composition! Re-framed perhaps 40 or 50 years ago. Measures 11 by 12 inches. FAB!!
