A good brass binocular "Popular" microscope by 'R & J Beck, London, No 8679, London & Philadelphia'. It has a triangular stand and the microscope can be tilted into various positions along its base. It has a circular stage and a multi-dircetional centre bar.
It stands 14.5" ( 37 cms) racked down and 18" ( 46cms ) racked up, the eye-pieces give another 1" adjusment in height.There is a thumb wheel adjuster for fine focussing. All racks and wheels are good and operate as they... should. The prism is undamaged and in its holder, fitted just above the nosepiece.
Accessories include a bullseye on stand, condenser diaphragm, an additional pair of eye-pieces, dark spot condenser, condenser prism, nose-piece prism, 3 x objectives. The microscope is equipped with a double nose-piece.It retains all lacquer - some areas with age marks.
The case (15.75" x 6.25" x 7.25") has three old splits to the lid but is firm and there is no movement to the wood when pressure is applied. The lock is missing.
The number of the microscope dates it to 1878.
