About this book
KIRKUS REVIEW says:
Growing up in the decades immediately before the American Revolution, as the son of a well-to-do Irish Catholic storekeeper in Maryland, John Carroll's natural inclinations were to a godliness made more prominent by the Puritan persecution of the Roman faith. When hardly more than a boy his parents sent him to St. Omer, a Jesuit school run by British priests in Belgium, and it was there that John finally decided to become a priest. His choice led to the happy, hardworking fulfillment of his desires. At home once again, Catholics were allowed their own churches and John had his Maryland parish. But with the coming of the Revolution he was appointed to increasingly important tasks- as a member of the commission to procure aid from Canada and as Bishop of Maryland. Simply and naturally told.
