GENUINE VINTAGE JAPANBARBIE NUMBER ONE BODYhas issues, but is in sound condition.
She has a chip on her toes of her right foot.Someone painted the chip to look like thereis toe nail paint, but most of it is worn away.
She has a repair to her right arm, but itis intact and moves freely in the joint.
Placing the head onto the new knob will require YOU to gently warm the head to make it more soft and supple before you put it onto the body.I'd be happy to walk you through that if youshould need assistance placing your Barbie head onto doll that might be valued in the thousands of dollars if complete :D
There is no original toe nail paint.There is a tiny fabric stain on her back thatmight be removed by sunlight or10% Benzoyl Peroxide cream (acne cream).
Her positive attributes are that she has both metal tubes in her legs.She has a considerable amount of herORIGINAL finger nail polish.
She is not spotless, but her overallcomplexion is nice with no stainsto her feet.
She has all of her fingers and they are intact.She has the correct markings for theoriginal 1959 Mattel Ponytail BarbieStock Number 850.
She has the heavy, solid, rubbery torso and pale, nearly white skin tone of a genuine #1.( photo #5 looks more pink, but the body is definitely more white that the image!)
She has a Crayon-like scent!
A newer Mattel Barbie doll stand with uprightand waist grip is included.

Mattel had a new product. I was quickly revisedand modified to be easier to make and less expensive to manufacture.
Number Ones, Twos, and #3 Ponytail Barbie dolls are, in my opinion, early "practice" dolls made by Mattel, as the body design continued to be refined & modified until the company apparently settled for what collectors call the #5 Barbie body.
1's, 2's, 3's & 4's all have the heavier, partially solid rubbery torso. Only #4's have the torso that remained tan in color. The first 3 versions of the Ponytail Barbie body paled & smelled like Crayons! The pale versions are the most sought-afterexamples of the early Barbie doll because fewer of them were made as Mattel quickly implemented easier and cheaper ways to manufacture their Barbie doll product.
The first big modification was Barbie's legs and her original stand. The stand was expensive and somewhat of a danger, with two metal prongs that stuck out of a black disc. If left on the floor, it could be stepped on, driving two nail-like spikes into an unsuspecting foot! So the holes in her feet, and the metal tubes were discontinued and a new stand was devised that held Barbie upright with an equally dangerous metal coat hanger like stand that rested under her arms with an upright stem that inserted into a black disc that had the Barbie logo. Dolls with the original 1959 face, but without the holes in their feet are called Number Two Barbie dolls by collectors, the only discernable difference being the design of the new legs & stand.
So ONLY the ORIGINAL, EARLY 1959 dolls had the holes in their feet with the metal tubes, and according to Sybil DeWein, author of the Barbie Encyclopedia, at the end of that years production, Mattel moved away from the original leg & stand design to that of the #2 Ponytail Barbie . The presence of holes in her feet, along with a head that had black & white eyes, no blue eye color, designates a Barbie doll as a genuine #1.
I am selling a genuine Mattel 1959 Number One #850 Ponytail BarbieTLC body.
Heavy, partially solid torsos of the first four dolls gave way to hard, hollow, "blow mold" torsos of the #5 doll bodies. Rubbery arms were replaced with much harder arms. The neck knob was revised and made much larger.
The doll faces and bodies retained their original color.
Parts from the first four versions of the original four versions of the Ponytail Barbie were not interchangeable with the later #5 bodies.
By the time the #5 (cheaper & more lightweight) version of the Ponytail Barbie doll body was introduced, Mattel knew that they had a hit on their hands, so production was increased to meet the demand. Suffice to say, there are many more #5 Ponytail Barbie dolls and bodies and parts out there and available to collectors than there are the first three examples of the Barbie doll, and that is why the prices of Ones, Twos and Three Barbie dolls are usually much higher than the #4's, #5's and #6 Barbie dolls.
