The grass withereth, the flower fadethBut the word of our God shall stand forever
The lower section of the gauze is stitched with a central carnation with a bird and fruit basket to its left and right, a dog above each bird. Margaret's details and the date of 182 are stitched beneath then the whole piece is surrounded by a meandering floral border. The gauze has overall discolouration consistent with its age, slightly darker in places with the odd small, faint stain. The colours of the wool are good with some shades not quite as vibrant as when this piece was originally made. The last photo is of the reverse of the sampler and indicates how the colours would have looked when Margaret first stitched it. Measures 16" x 12 1/2"
