This beautiful antique Japanese bronze vases are expertly decorated in high relief with a scene depicting fishermen in the open sea, on a boat, intricately decorated with flowers and a dragon in gold, and dark from patina silver. The quality of the bronze relief is a great example of the quality of Japanese craftsmanship during the Meiji period. The Japanese Meiji period occurred from the late 19th century until the early 20th century. During the early Meiji period, the Japanese govern...ment promoted Western art and architecture. However, the enthusiasm for this soon died down, and there was a strong revival of traditional Japanese artistic styles. Indeed, many of the techniques and materials used to create the most popular Meiji style of decorative arts were over one thousand years old. The Japanese Meiji period produced some of the most beautiful and highly prized works of art in Japanese culture, a stunning example of which are the present antique bronze vases. There is no signature or mark. They are in a very good condition, with the exception that on the side of one of the vases the patina has been cleaned to now expose the shiny surface of the brass. This happened just recently when I had a supposedly "reputable" well known international auction house evaluate the vases. After they left I discovered what they have done, while this is not really damage, I regret the incident, knowing it will take years for the patina to cover the shiny spot. The vases are 6" tall and about 3.5" wide. Please review the photos and feel free to ask any questions you might have.We appreciate your business!
