Stunning 13" French Fashion Doll Circa 1860-70 with bisque swivel head on bisque shoulder plate. She has gorgeous blue paper weight eyes, painted lashes, feather brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth, accented lips, rosy cheeks, pierced ears, original dark blonde mohair wig over original cork plate. French leather kid poupee body with shapely waist, gusseted at elbows, hips and knees, stitched and separated fingers.She comes with 2 stunning gowns:-The first is an exquisite 3 piece em...erald green ensemble in heavy silk satin. The skirt has 2 bias cut tiers at the front edged with fine silk ribbon with a ruched back, the hem line has a small frill and deep emerald green velvet ribbon trim. Over the back of the skirt is a detachable long train edged with a matching satin frill, bows, silk and velvet ribbon edging. The fitted boned bodice part of the jacket has a ruched bustle attached to the back and bow detail. Like the skirt and trail the bustle part of the jacket is trimmed with fine silk and velvet ribbons. The front bodice part and cuffs of the puff sleeves are trimmed with velvet ribbon, cuffs also frilled. The finishing touches to the jacket is a satin bow at the neck and fine cream lace edging around the neckline and cuffs. The jacket is fastened at the front by lots of tiny hook and eyes, the jacket is also fully lined with cream cotton. She has a delicate matching emerald green satin hat with fine net and silk flower detail. Shoes are matching emerald green with ribbon tie and bow detail. The workmanship and attention to detail to this outfit is second to none. Its all hand made with old antique fabrics. Not sure when it was made but looks quite old and has signs of age. Who ever made it was extremely skilled and it looks very expensive truly haute couture on a miniature scale.The second later gown is a miniature version of a Haute Couture Worth gown circa 1875. It is made of a medium weight cream silk and consists of 2 pieces. The skirt comprise of two layers, the under layer is a full skirt with ruching at the top, the edge of the skirt is edged with fine silk fringing. The top layer of the skirt is fashion into a puff ball effect. The jacket has a long train attached to it with a padded bustle and bow detail, the train is edged with a matching cotton velvet and the bustle is edge with a narrow fine silk fringing. The bodice part of the fitted jacket has a shawl collar and bow detail. The sleeve cuffs are trimmed with a fine cream lace. Tiny contrast stitching detail has been sewn around the edge of the jacket and train. She has a delicate antique floral corsage which also has matching flower in her matching hat.Underneath these two wonderful outfits she has her original underwear consisting of a cream fine lawn chemise with tiny delicate scallop embroider edging around the neckline, long cream cotton pantaloons with tiny fine lace edging and delicate embroidery, White cotton red polka dot half petticoat, cream cotton half petticoat with embroidery anglese detail around the waist and hem and fagoting embroidery border near hemline. Plus single cotton jersey carmel coloured stockings.And of course the lady has her jewelery consisting of a pearl necklace and matching drop earrings.Child's cream fine cotton pointelle mittens which belonged and were worn by the original owner.Unusually this doll comes with quite extensive owner history that has been written down by the last owner so there is a record. She has always been know as Claudine and was purchased in France during the early years of the first world war 1914-18 by an English lady who was sent to France to sew fabric wings of aircraft. She had worked for the haute couture house "Worth " in London and was sent there because she could sew. She intended to costume the doll in the manor of the 19th century house of Worth but she never got around to it so she remained in her original emerald green outfit. After her death the doll was inherited by another family member and was packed away in a draw until there was no future family member to pass the doll onto.A copy of the 19th century outfit by Worth was made by the next owner of the doll to fulfill what was intended.The original owner had lived at Clunbury Hall until 1943, daughter Carole Brettell Vaughan had no no children's to pass Claudine doll onto, so in ill health decided to sell the doll in 2009 along with the mittens which stayed with her.A photo of Claudine in the Worth style outfit was sent to Carole by the purchaser of the doll so she saw what her mother had intended for the doll.CONDITION : Doll is in very good condition for age. Head is very good and free from chips and hairlines, there is a tiny scuff to the right cheek but is barely noticeable, leather fingers are worn ( tatty ) otherwise leather kid body is very good. Original wig is worn at the back. Both outfits are in very good condition.This doll ticks alot of boxes for me as an ex fashion designer, she is a beautiful doll that is beautifully dressed in haute couture clothes of the day.Please study the photos carefully as they form a large part of the description.
