I have here for sale a book entitled THE MINSTREL; OR THE PROGRESS OF GENIUS IN TWO BOOKS with some other poems by James Beattie. It is a first edition published in 1797 by C Dilly, London. It features 4 b/w engraved plates. Apart from the Minstrel, the book includes pieces named Retirement; Elegy; Ode to Hope; Pygmaeo-gerano-machia: The Battle of the Pygmies and Cranes; The Hares: A Fable; Epitaph: being Part of an Inscription for a Monument, to be erected by a Gentl...eman to the Memory of his Lady; Ode on Lord H**'s Birth-Day; and The Hermit.Half calf leather on blue marbled hardboards. 7 gilt bands, red leather title block with gilt lettering. A few scuffs and some rubbing to the boards but both firm. Small tear to spine. Book plate to front endpaper. Internally clean and binding firm. 120pp, 16 x 10 cm.Postage will be by Air Mail outside of UK. If you buy more than one item then the postage cost falls for the second and further items as I will put them in to one parcel - so you save money.
