AntiqueSolid Silver Needle Case Dutch* Circa 1780-1800 Thissolid silver needle case is 18th century and has the figures of a manand woman in the dress of the day around thesides. Branches with birdsdecorate the top. The top has a wax seal engraved with the scriptinitials HNunder a baron's coronet. It only has one tiny mark that I can't makeout but it tests 800+/1000 pure silver.
Thesilver is solid and heavy (15.9 grams). Aside from some rub...bing, thecondition is excellentwith no dents or other damage. It screws together well and measuresalmost 4"long. Kay Sullivan shows silver needle cases in this style on pp. 82-83of her book NeedleworkTools andAccessories - A Dutch Tradition.
