MODEL, YEAR, FEATURES: Truetone’s Model D2615 is an elegant looking push button Bakelite tube set that was sold by Western Auto Supply back in 1946. This one came from the factory with a white finish; after decades of sun exposure and dust, it was time for a refinish, and rather than go with the plain white again, I decided on this ebony black and fine gold trim scheme you presently see. Deco styling cues include rounded corners, vertical louvers,... a pedestal base, and radio features a lighted dial; controls are simple Volume and Tuning. Stations can be tuned in with the large tuning knob on the right and they can be preset to work with the push buttons to quickly scoot over to your favorites. Each push button can be tagged with AM station call letters in your area; they're presently tagged for SF bay area stations. This table radio will surely find a place in home or collection, and would make a great gift for anyone who appreciates vintage Made in USA craftsmanship & technology built to last. CONDITION, SERVICING, PERFORMANCE: Cabinet is free of chips or cracks. All traces of faded finish were removed, cabinet was carefully prepped, precisely masked, and given this gloss black and gold trim paint scheme about a year ago, then hand rubbed to a high luster. Dial scale graphics and numerals are legible, and the dial cover is clear, lighting up nicely when radio is turned on. Controls work as they should, radio has clear sound and good reception across the AM band without hum or distortion. Many items were addressed including all capacitors, several wires, a new speaker, and power cord. The original Stratoscope loop antenna and backboard are well intact and firmly fastened. Original knobs, push buttons and fasteners all present. The six tubes inside are commonly found to this day, and easily serviced from the back panel if needed. Chassis clean without smoke odors. DIMENSIONS, SHIPPING: Radio measures 11.2 inches wide, stands 7.6 inches tall, and is 6.5 inches deep from the front of the push buttons to the back panel (old 6.5 Oz. Coke bottle in one photo placed to give sense of scale). I have shipped well over a thousand delicate tube radios all over the world for the past 20 years on eBay with fine packing materials and methods, so no worries.
