A rare, important and gorgeously bound English folio Bible that was in fact printed in Amsterdam, and although it remains a King James Version Bible, it contains important Geneva Notes, as reflected by the separate New Testament title , 'The New Testament of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ ... with brief Summaries and Expositions of Theod. Beza upon the hard places, together with the Annotations of Fr. Junius upon the Revelation of S. John. The which Notes have never been till now set forth with this new translation, but are now placed in due order by J.C.'
A superb reading and study Bible with great typography and important maps by Moxon, in fact all 5 are present, including the world map, which shows North America and depicts California as an Island. The extensive and excellent Geneva Bible notes were rarely included in King James Version printings and make this a very interesting and useful edition, not usually seen at market .The book begins with the Common Prayer, with title page, complete. The Bible retains both titles as well and is also complete, with the Apocrypha (and the half title), and is interleaved with the 5 important maps, as previously mentioned, all in decent shape although with some professional edge restorations, as shown. The Whole Book of Psalms at the rear is also complete. Bound in a stunning Dutch style leather binding with ornate metal corners and clasp catches, although the clasps are no longer present. The spine is professionally rebacked with dark leather, raised bands and the hinges thus are firm and strong. A stellar copy. Measures 16" x 11" x 4.75" thick. Good luck!
