This brass binocular microscope by "W. Johnson, 188, Tottenham Ct. Rd." has no cracks or chips to the brass that I can find and it has retained much of its' lacquering and paint to the base, however, there is a little tarnishing in places, there are also the usual scuffs, marks and scratches that you expect from a well used item of this age.The makers details are impressed in to the rear of the base, along with "Optician to the London University Hospital, 876" on the side.'W. Johnson ...& Sons was one of the oldest independent opticians in London. The company, started by William George Johnson in 1801, manufacturing microscopes and barometers before diversifying to produce spectacles'.The draw tubes slide up and down smoothly, although the eyepieces rack and pinion mechanism is a little stiff. The fine focus wheel appears to be working.The double sided mirror is free from any cracks or chips.There is a prism present, although, there are some tiny nibbles to one end.The stage adjustment appears to be stuck.The microscope has both eyepieces but no objective.The microscope measures approximately 32 cm (12 1/2 inches) tall.
