Photos one through four show plant forms and details of specimens in my collection as well as the very attractive blueflowers and ice yellow fruit that this plant is noted for. Hangers not supplied but easily sourced online or at localgarden shop.Myrmephytum sp. “YellowFruit” is a large, warm-gr...owing ant plant of the coffee family (Rubiaceae) apparentlyoriginating from the southern Philippines. This species does not fit any of thedescribed species in the genus and will probably be named in the near future. Theyare amazing subjects for cultivation as tropical ornamentals for growers whocan provide a well-lit, warm environment year-round. In many parts of thecountry, these plants can be grown as hanging plants in bright shade during thelate spring, summer and early fall. Do well in bright bay windows and can begrown to full size in one with enough patience. Somewhat drought-tolerant, butprefers uniformly moist, not wet, growing conditions. The plant shown is a three-year-old, second generation cultivated plant, grown from seed from my own selected parentstock originating from wild-collected seed accessed in 2008. The stem of theplant has been “trained” sideways since youth to exaggerate the twisted andbulky natural aspect of this species caudex, although the plants are often semipendent in nature as well. This is a near mature plant that will soon produceviable fruit from self-pollination in attractive pale yellow berries. Ants arenot required for successful cultivation of this species and the plant in my collectiondo not house ant colonies.All plants offered are greenhouse grown on benches in the San FranciscoBay Area, California.Shipping: Plants will be shipped via USPS Priority Mail withtracking number for physical addresses within three working days of receipt ofpayment, weather permitting. 72-hour heat packs are available for an additionalUSD 6.00 each.Wherever possible, plants will beshipped in plastic pots or baskets.
