Being offered is an interesting and possibly very old antique stone headed war club. Stone headed war clubs were used all over the world. So unsure if this is Native American, South American, Oceanic, Melanesian, Micronesian or Australian Aboriginal. It measures 20 3/8” in total length. The stone head is almost mace like in that it is not perfectly round but rather has flattened areas around the circumference making it more four or five sided in a way but stil...l round in general shape. There is some dark staining on one of the flattened areas that might be blood staining. Another interesting feature is how it is mounted. The wood handle is inserted into the bottom of the stone. In Papua New Guinea the round stone heads have an opening on top and bottom and pass all the way though. This club does not pass through the top. Plus, the bottom is shaped and formed tightly around the wood creating a very tight fit. There is no slipping or looseness at all. The material here feels like the rest of the head, like stone. I don’t know how they shaped the stone that perfectly unless through some kind of fire method and whatever they used to adhere it inside it worked perfectly and is going nowhere. The wood used for the handle is a hard wood and a knotted wood. Some bark remains just in a small section at the very top near the head and a slight bit at the very end or bottom of the handle. There is a chipped and broken section at the bottom so may have originally been longer and broke at some point in time but the patination in this area is matching the rest so it happened a long time ago. A very interesting stone headed war club artifact from an unknown culture but potentially Native American, Australian Aboriginal, Micronesian, Melanesian and even possibly South American.
