This is an auction for a gorgeous HANDMADE LACE late Victorian Era Petticoat designed of super fine Swiss Linen Batiste. The front of the petticoat is flat, with one mother of pearl closure in the back and one set of steel hook/eye. This is a very lightweight and super fine petticoat with solid structure and composition; there is one section of lace that is handmade with linen thread. There is a section of gusset on the back lower lever of the petticoat. The internal ...seams are fully intact and the waistband is in solid functioning condition.
The waist measures approximately 27" Length is 40"
The CIRCUMFERENCE of the Petticoat is 80"
The petticoat is priced as it is, due to minor imperfections of perhaps a few pin pricks on the batiste or a minor discoloration that is either in the linen as a natural imperfection of the linen or from storage (including being wrinkled) that are not readily apparent. Overall, in good to very good condition; this is an excellent example of a typical Victorian undergarment that provided a very refined flounce for the gown that would have been worn over this petticoat.
This piece has NOT BEEN PRESSED and, as such, has a somewhat wrinkled look when presented on the dress form. It is coming from archival storage from The Lace Museum Detroit where it had been rolled and placed in a controlled setting. Once pressed, with the appropriate pressing cloth, this petticoat will have the pristine look that was so fashionable of Victorian undergarment history.
