TAMMANY MECHANICAL BANK Great New York City Collectible With Bobble Head
From a Connecticut Estate Auction comes this Rare 1873 Patent Cast Iron TAMMANY MECHANICAL BANK made by J & E Stevens. Weighing about 2 ¼ pounds, this is a great New York City collectible as it depicts New York City Mayor Jimmy Walker who lost his office as a result of taking bribes, known as the Tammany Hall Scandal. Put a ...coin in his hand and push the hand and the coin goes into his jacked pocket and his head bobbles.
This appears to be all original including the paint and, as these things normally do, comes with a number of coins already deposited. There is a tiny stable crack to the left bottom of the screw in the above photo. Comfortably seated in his chair, the mayor is 5 3/4” tall, 4 1/4” front-to-back and about 3 3/4” wide. A prior owner put a tag on the bottom regarding how to retrieve the coins and I've left that there. As shown, the back of his chair shows the patent date. I recently purchased a small collection of Black Americana and other banks and will be listing those in the coming weeks. Please watch my listings both for those and what I hope is an interesting and eclectic selection of other vintage and antique items.
