ITEM: You are bidding on an original 1930s - 1940s Native Americana form van Briggle Art Pottery decorative pottery figure. This was manufactured with their now iconic and harmonious two color matte glaze. The figure is that of a kneeling Hopi Indian woman grinding corn, known to collectors today as "The Corn Maiden." The Van Briggle Art Pottery was the oldest continuously operating art pottery in the United States, having been established in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1901 by Artus and Anne Van Briggle. Artus had a significant impact on the Art Nouveau movement in the United States, and his pottery is foundational to American Art Pottery. The Art Nouveau style favored by its founders continues to influence the pottery's designs.
Measures 7" tall and 7" deep by 6" across.
