I found this globe in a resale shop in Oak Park, IL just a few blocks from the Replogle family home. I couldn't figure out it's exact publication date from the Replogle website but between 1946 and 1949 I think. The meridian is intact and in place and there are few imperfections in the map. The globe is mounted in a Deco style base with an antique bronze finish. The metal is in good shape too - dark bronze color, with polished highlights. The base is hollow with an opening in the back ...for a magnifying glass or maps or perhaps a travel brochure. Those are no longer with the globe so it will be up to the next world traveler to outfit the hidden compartment in style! The surface of the globe is smooth (no embossed mountains) and the colors of the countries and oceans maintain their colors with a magnificent patina of 70 years. This globe will not be mistaken for a toy or a current issue unit. It will look right at home in a substantial home with a proper library or in the company of other vintage collectibles.
