This signed letter has significant content:This lot includes: a reply letter from Branden to Sher, in place of Ayn Rand, addressing her question about a character and inviting her to a lecture series: "Dear Miss Sher: Miss Rand has asked me to express her appreciation for your letter, and her regret that she was unable to answer you herself. Unfortunately, the answer to your question is no - there is no actual Richard Halley; he is a fictional character. Miss Rand has suggested that you might wish to know of a lecture series being given on the further implications and applications of the ideas presented in these two books. I am therefore enclosing a prospectus which describes such a course of lectures." This Letter is SIGNED by Nathaniel Branden.
Nathaniel Branden (April 9, 1930 – December 3, 2014) was a Canadian–American psychotherapist and writer known for his work in the psychology of self-esteem.
A former associate and romantic partner of Ayn Rand, Branden also played a prominent role in the 1960s in promoting Rand's philosophy, Objectivism.
In 1950, after he had read The Fountainhead and exchanged letters and phone calls with Ayn Rand, Branden and his then-girlfriend Barbara Weidman visited Rand and her husband Frank O'Connor at their Los Angeles home. The four became close friends, with Branden and Rand in particular sharing a vivid interest in philosophical exploration and development. After the publication of Rand's novel Atlas Shrugged, and sensing an interest on the part of Rand's readers in further philosophic education, Branden created in 1958 the Nathaniel Branden Institute (NBI), originally Nathaniel Branden Lectures (the letters included in this collection), to disseminate Rand's philosophy of Objectivism, by offering live and taped lecture courses by Rand, Branden, and a variety of other Objectivist intellectuals (including Alan Greenspan, whom Branden had brought into Rand's fold). During this time Branden also contributed articles to Rand's newsletters on subjects ranging from economics to politics to psychology. Branden's work at NBI included translating the principles expressed by Rand in her fiction and non-fiction writing into a systematized construct that became known as Objectivism.

"My philosophy, in essence, is the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute."— Ayn Rand,  Atlas Shrugged
''The book explores a number of philosophical themes that Rand would subsequently develop into the philosophy of objectivism. It centers around the decline of Western civilization and Rand described it as demonstrating the theme "the role of man's mind in existence." In doing so it expresses many facets of Rand's philosophy, such as the advocacy of reason, individualism, and the market economy.''
