this is the First Edition of this work on The Prophecy of Amos
in the Hebrew Bible and Christian Old Testament, Amos was one of the Twelve Minor Prophets. An older contemporary of Hosea and Isaiah, Amos was active c. 760–755 BCE during the rule of kings Jeroboam II and Uzziah. He was from the southern Kingdom of Judah but preached in the northern Kingdom of Israel
Amos believed that "God is Lord over all human history and that all men are equal in his sight. By this, he implies that any other nation could stand in the same place of privilege which Israel had known. Both God's concern in love and his concern in judgment are without discrimination

the book is bound in an old half leather binding with marbled paper covered boards, 7.5 inches tall approx. with an odd pagination, with some noted mis-numbering of pages [8], 256, 265-266, [2], 289-427, [1], 449-583, [9] pages
text is complete
CONDITION
the binding is showing some obvious wear with the leather back strip missing from the spine, surface wear to marbled papers, corners worn, internally fitted with later endpapers, opening onto title page, the title page is noticeably browned with a paper strengthening repair to rear, frits leaf after the title page is cropped to leading plain edge, some old scribbling in very old ink to a number of pages (example of worst of which are pictured) some noticeable moisture staining to a few pages at rear of book, some cockling of paper, along with a few corner creases, final leaf also cropped at leading edge not affecting text else in good acceptable condition
