For sale is a bit of a mystery piece - a top quality bust almost certainly made in France around 1800. The top part is biscuit porcelain of a lady with a superb hair design including lots of curls and a bun in the back. The detail is as good as anything I have seen before! Even the eyes are done so they look real. The middle part of the piece that covers up her bust seems to be made of silver which I have not seen before - this part also has some superb detail including all the folds i...n the dress with a pin in the front. This sits on top of a high quality red marble column. No a combination I have seen before and it looks stunning! The lady might be one of the French King's mistresses or something along those lines. I wish I knew who made it but there aren't many that could produce this kind of quality! The piece is in superb condition. There is a small firing flaw on the neck of the lady which is normal and doesn't take away from the piece, a teeny chip to one bottom edge corner of the marble base and the silver is tarnished. I tried to show that there are ridges in the silver part from the making. Not sure why that is but is is not totally smooth in the back and sides. The piece is 5 inches tall, 3 inches wide and 2 inches deep. Sorry about the pics - new camera and still learning but she is a beauty! 18thC 18th 19th century Bueste Figur
