This is a Very Early BLACK FOREST CARVED DOG With Pine Hemlock Tree. Very Early Piece Dating to The late 1700’s - Early 1800’s. My thought is that he’s German, however he could be Early American Folk Art Carved by a German Immigrant. It was found in the Northeast, PA Area many years ago. Piece is carved from a single piece of wood depicting a hunting dog in front of a Evergreen Tree from the Forest. As noted in the photos, Center of the tree has a long slender hole to possibly ho...ld the stem of an Early Clay Pipe, or possibly a long match or piece of fatwood to light a fire, such as a match strike/holder. Unusual tiny pierced holes along the boughs of the Evergreen Branches = to hold fishing hooks? Ornaments? Or simply a decorative whimsy - not sure. These are not worm holes, but very tiny round pierced holes that are properly spaced = for something, not sure what. A very Early Primitive Piece, But Very well done with lots of detail and character. All Original, Untouched, I made no attempt to clean or polish it. I’ve had this piece packed away for about 30 years, so it’s time it finds a good new home and is displayed.Measures: 5 1/2” Inches Tall X 3 1/2” Wide at the bottom Base. Condition: Excellent Overall Antique used Condition. Untouched, has not been cleaned nor polished- Original Old patina. Small piece of wood missing at top back rim as shown in photo, still displays well and looks great. Anything else is from use and age. Smoke Free Home.
