Circa 1840s Staffordshire Transferware Child's plate with "The Tulip and the Butterfly appears in gayer coats than I" and "Let me dress'd fine as I will . Flies worms and flowers exceed me still". The transfer image is of a finely dressed girl & boy in a garden with large tulips and a butterfly. Transfer in black with hand painted accents. Daisy flowered embossed border. Plate measures 6.5" wide. No markings on back. This plate, along with a similar child's transferware plate... which I'm listing, was purchased directly from the home of Laura May who was one of the owners of May's Antique Market in Brimfield Massachusetts. She loved antiques and was able to view her dealer's inventory before the fields opened. She recently passed and I was lucky enough to pick up a few treasures. The condition is quite nice considering the age of the plate. Typical crazing and a pop in the glaze. Scuff at 6 o'clock position. A light blue hue under the glaze on the rim which is only noticeable upon close examination. The backside has crazing and discoloration and a line at 10 o'clock. None of these detract from the beauty of the plate but I note them for full disclosure. I'll combine the two plates into one shipment if a buyer wants to purchase both. Please contact me with any questions. Sold as is.
