Original Description:
1983 BMW R80 G/S/R80 S/T PARIS DAKAR Motorcycle VIN Number WB1034906D6207073  Frame Number 10850038 Milage as of Photos - 27452Please review all the 40+ photos and video belowThis is a very nice 1983 R80 G/S Paris Dakar inspired Motorcycle - This Motorcycle started life as an R80 ST the street version of the R80 G/S and the R80ST is in fact quite a bit rarer than than the GS model only about 5000 R80 ST models were built in 1983 and 1984 and just over 1000 made it to the USA.... The two models share many parts so is the same chassis and running gear exhaust etc as a R80G/S. I can not tell you the history of this motorcycle as I do not know it, I saw in sitting in a friends collection a few years back and pestered him until he sold it to me, he got it more or less as seen and also did not know who did the conversion, this has been as seen quite heavily modified for serious touring and trail riding. This motorcycle runs and rides superbly, the things I do know that have been done are - the top end was completely redone as well as matched 32mm Bing carbs rebuilt about 3000+ Miles ago, plus - new steering and wheel bearings just done, new starter, and brand new tires 100 miles ot less on them, new battery a year ago. I have been through and changed all fluids and done regular valve adjustments. Also fitted with the Harrison Engineering Billet 6 front brake which is way way better than the original, but I must confess they can sometimes feel a bit woody but they work superbly with six pads and pots, I found an original nearly unused rear shock, the charging system as seen is some sort of belt driven high output upgrade, the seat and tank are original Paris Dakar G/S BMW parts. Newer fork tubes are Forking by frank, wheels are correct BMW/Akront GS wheels - 21 and 18, front and rear fenders are Acerbis. As seen below it also comes with a full set of Hepco Becker Aluminum panniers - small dent in the large pannier, also comes with original side covers and hand guards which I removed but are included.  I did over 2500 mile ride on this motorcycle last summer through California, Utah, New Mexico and Arizona, it was insanely hot on some days this machine never missed a beat. I am always surprised just how well this bike handles and how quick it is - please review video walk around and ride.Overall this bike has a great original/older patina and in my opinion is just how you would want to find an old motorcycle but as I said it is a bitsa/custom G/S Motorcycle and far from original, as seen it could be seen as a bit tatty around the edges, couple of small dings in gas tank, some scratches, front plastic fender is a bit warped, the speedo runs a bit fast so milage is less than shown but I do not know the true original milage of this motorcycle, at some time there may have been PIAA lights on it as the switch box is there and wired up but not the lights, all blinkers - loud horn, high/low switches work, neutral light does not come on may just be the bulb, I have never worried about it. The headlight appears to be Halogen and is super bright. final drive is 37/11.  Please study all photos and video for your own opinion - I can tell you it goes down the road very well with no issues, easy start, good brakes, easy gear selection, responsive engine and superb handling and suspension and is an absolute blast to ride round the block or a few thousand miles. In my humble opinion the early GS motorcycle look superb and is one of the best looking BMW models of the 1970's and 1980's era, this is a very very useable classic, it gets a lot of attention where ever I go on it, I am only selling to buy a new Urban GS which I have a hankering for. Please study the 40+ pictures below closely and the walk around video, if you need to see something specific please email or call. I will be using it until sold so milage will go up. This motorcycle has a clean and current California title and registration in my name.Anyone is more than welcome and encouraged to come and see it before bidding.
