This is a beautiful collector's plate bearing the golden leafmark of the Pickard studio in Chicago, ca. 1912-1918.This mark covers the blank mark, that could be Limogesor German.The plate is signed by the listed Pickard artist EDWARD CHALLINOR. This artist excelled in the Vellum technique, that was introduced by Pickard in 1912. It was applied indelicate pastel colors with matte-finish paints that gave the pieces a velvet feel.This particular scene is called "Walled ...Garden".With a scene like this on a bowlChallinor won 2nd price in 1915 when he entered the BurleyExibition at the Chicago Art Institute. (Ref. "The Collector's Encyclopedia of Pickard China".)This plate is 8 1/2" in diameter and is in excellent condition with no visible flaws.
