Year Anniversary of the FulbrightScholarship stamp, Scott # 3065. About the inspiration for the feature stamp : itwas on August 1, 1946 when Arkansas Senator, William Fulbright's masterfullyconceived Fulbright Scholarship program was signed into law by then-president, Harry Truman. As the PO's souvenir page for this stamp explains it, SenatorFulbright's scholarship program ". . .gave students and professionals the chance to live and study ( bypaying for all expenses ) inanother country. Fulbright, himself, described the program as an attempt 'tobring a little more knowledge, a little more reason, and a little morecompassion into world affairs, and thereby increase the chance that nationswill learn, at last, to live in peace and friendship'." Atthe time of this stamp's release, there were 130 nations participating in thisSenator Fulbright's program. About the feature stamp, itself : this mesmerizing stamp gives us analmost surreal look at the human mind impact by the Fulbright Program. Over theperson's right eye is a compass, symbolizing all direction in the world whichthe Fulbright Program reaches out to. And within the actual brain of this stampmodel the various countries represent the global reach of what later came to beknown as simply "the Student-Exchange Program." About the Scarcity Factor : please note that only12 of these hardly-ever-seen FDCs were made, thereby ranking it as one of the rarestof all the covers from her distinguished line of work. Interesting Tidbit : in the April 2010 issue of the Hobby publication First Days, we find out this about Ms. Gordon : "Carol Gordon, who operated Carol Gordon Cachets in California from 1980 to 2004, was a creative cachetmaker known for her oversized cachets, striking designs, and exceptional use of color. Her first cachet was for the September 25, 1980 Pacific Northwest Indian Masks ( Scott 1834-27 ), and her last cachet was for the 2004 Cloudscapes issue ( Scott 3878 ).
