Lovely antique toleware document or money box, Pennsylvania or New England, early-to-mid 19th century, tinware with domed hinged lid and looped wire bail handle, original hasp, the front panel hand-painted with floral and foliate motifs in red, pink, green, and ocher, the two short sides with stylized pinwheels, the lid with floral and scroll motifs, all against a black background, the overall dimensions approx. 8" x 4-3/4" x 3-7/8". Scattered small, old losses to paint (principally to... background), otherwise fine, sturdy attractive condition, with excellent paint retention and no dents, bends, holes, breaks, or rust.A handsome, outstanding example in an uncommonly fine state of preservation.
