Original Description:
This document box was recently deaccessioned from a local decorative art musuem.  Nice example of a mid 1850's toleware tin metal box.  Size is 6 1/2 inches wide by 3 1/2 inches tall and 3 inches wide.  Polychromed painted red florals.  There are some scratches and surface wear.  Good condition for something that is 165 years old.  It is small in size smaller then most document boxes I suspect it was for tea, spices or money.  It is missing the notch ...for the lock.
