A very small early German jug produced in the first half of the 15th century. Manufactured in the Köln (Cologne) / Frechen area of Germany. The fired clay is more accurately described as 'fast steinzeug', or 'almost stoneware'. The jug was hand thrown on the potter's wheel with a spiral rilling evident on the outer portion of the vessel. Strap handle. Spouted lip at the front of the upper rim. A brownish slip, or engobe was applied to the clay body before firing. <...br>Condition: Signs of wear and some very shallow chipping to the glaze only (see photos). No lines or cracks. No repairs or restorations. Overall in excellent condition for the age. Height : 4.25 inches.
