Original Description:
A genuine English oak, hand carved 17th century bible box or sometime deed box with ornate front elevation carving and most importantly and quite rare, the original owners initials are carved FH.
This wonderful and versatile antique is both beautiful to enjoy whilst having a historic interest and a useful function, function and form. Mostly well cared for during its 350-380 years, it has some typical issues these boxes tend to suffer, it has a split top which is a clean split with 2... oak blocks fitted beneath to retain, it hasn’t been crudely filled and made efforts to conceal, likewise it has some corner damages which again are common.
The ornate carving, initials, size, strap hinges all add to the beauty of this delightful piece of history, it will be sold as it is, other than a wax polish, no further tampering or repairs will be done, this is very original and with a great patina.
