This scarce, charming "Thorens Excelda" portable camera-phone gramophone is in "as found" condition.Hermann Thorens began manufacturing portable gramophones in the 1930's in Saint-Croix, Switzerland. The "Excelda" was manufactured from 1935 to 1947.The body and lid are in a red crackle finish paint work, there are some patches of paint loss and the usual scuffs, scratches and use marks that you would associate with a used machine of this age.The sound box and arm show a little loss of... finish, but they do fit together well.The gramophone does wind up and revolves the turntable, the start/stop also works, however, when the needle is placed on a record the record slows and stops.The sound box may be a replacement.There is a number of needles with the gramophone.The leather handle is well attached.We are not experts on gramophones and if you require any further information or photographs please ask before the end of the auction. Vintage c1940~ "Thorens" "Excelda" ~Gramophone.
This scarce, charming "Thorens Excelda" portable camera-phone gramophone is in "as found" condition. Hermann Thorens began manufacturing portable gramophones in the 1930's in Saint-Croix, Switzerland. The "Excelda" was manufactured from 1935 to 1947. The sound box and arm show a little loss of finish, but they do fit together well.
