Terrific Circa 1820s Rare Wedgwood Hand-painted Black Basalt Taper/Spill VaseDating to the early 19th century this is a spill vase made by Wedgwood in the Black Basalt pottery. With no date code seen and from previous examples we date it to the 1820-30s. It is hand enamelled with depictions of Chinese blooms; a theme that was very popular and considered exotic during the late Georgian era. It is a small cylinder that we believe held spills or tapers for lighting a pipe from the open f...ire. The base is simply impressed “WEDGWOOD” with no other marks.It is in fair antique condition with a hairline crack from the upper edge; hear more than seen; commensurate light wear.
