Original Description:
Very small unfinished early 19th century linen and red wool work sampler c.1830 or slightly earlier. Worked by an anonymous hand this little sampler is completely charming with neat stitch work throughout. The upper section of the linen is stitched with rows of alphabet letters, numbers and border patterns with a heart to each side of the last row, whilst the remainder of the linen remains blank.The linen has overall discolouration consistent with its age, slightly grubby with a line r...unning down and across the centre, presumably the result of the sampler having been folded up for many years. The red of the thread is good. The last photo is of the reverse of the sampler and indicates how the colour would have looked when it was first stitched. Measures 5 3/4" x 6 1/2"
