The lower section of the linen is stitched with a charming two storey house with a lawn to the front and a tree flanked by flowers to its left and right. Alison's name is stitched over the roof of the house with a crown on each side, each with a set of initials beneath them, probably belonging to Alison' parents. The whole piece is then surrounded by a neat floral border. The linen has overall discolouration consistent with its age, slightly darker around the edges which show visible stitches from where the sampler has been tacked onto its backing paper. There are also two light creases running across the upper and lower sections of the linen. As mentioned earlier, the backing paper of Alison's sampler has remained virtually intact so the colours of the silks are not visible. However, it seems that the sampler has been folded in three for many years as the paper is creased that way. The bottom crease has split over time so one is able to take a peek inside which reveals that the colours of the silks are good.Measures 6 1/4" x 8 1/4"
