VINTAGE 1976 BRILHART LEVEL AIR 6 TENOR SAXOPHONE MOUTHPIECE, CAP, & LIGATURE
Item History & Price
This listing is for a vintage Arnold Brilhart stainless steel tenor saxophone mouthpiece. It is the model commonly known as the Level Air (or Aire), although they are not actually marked as such. Brilhart was always on the cutting edge of design, and this was one of the first high baffle mouthpie...ces to come on the market. These were very popular with fusion players in the 1970's.
This one was made in 1976. September 29th, 1976, to be exact! The 6 digit number on most of these was not a serial number (as most people think), but actually a date of production stamp. So 092976 means 09/29/1976.
This one has a 6* facing measuring .094". It is rare to see these in anything larger than a 5, because most players preferred smaller tip openings when these were made. Although .094" is by no means a huge tip opening, it is actually a perfect spot for many contemporary players, and the high baffle really gives it a lot of punch, so sheer volume is not as necessary to cut through in a loud band.
This mouthpiece is in excellent used condition. It has never been damaged. The tip, table, and rails are perfectly smooth. There is a minimal amount of oxidation on the table. It has been cleaned/sanitized, so it is ready to use. It comes with its original cap, and a non-original ligature, as shown
