Here is a marvelous Victorian piece. This is beautifully done in a black paper mache background accented with gilt corner designs. Exquisitely painted flower and leaf designs can be seen on the top accented with Mother of Pearl. Raise the lid to reveal 2 compartments, they are both lined with a tin type glaze. Each of the black lids has a mother of pearl button knob, designed like a flower and used to lift them. The inside shows use and wea...r but is still very useful should you choose to. As you go around the outside of the box, you notice each side is painted with a similar, yet different floral design. The base of the box has a lovely wave edge accented with gilt band and designs. We have a key, but unfortunately it does not work the lock, it may just need a little oil to loosen it up. This has a few bumps and bruises as is usual for an item of this age, but nothing to deter from it beauty or usefulness. This measures 8.75" wide side to side x 5.75" deep front to back x 4.5" high top to bottom. Each tea well measures 4 3/8" deep front to back x 3 5/8" wide side to side x 3" deep inside and weighs 1 lb 10.3ozs. This is in great condition for its age. What a wonderful addition to your vintage box collection.
