Frank R. ElliscommemoratesA. Howard HinkleJanuary 7, 1903
On the reverse side is a symbol with wings and a torch that I am unfamiliar with. Frank Ellis and A. Howard Hinkle were wealthy Cincinnatians who summered in Bar Harbor, Maine. Frank Ellis lived in the Cleftstone Manor in Bar Harbor which is presently a resort hotel. There is a Frank Ellis room at the Cleftstone Manor. The Hinkle on the mug is the 21-ye...ar old son with the same name as his father who died of typhoid fever at the age of 21.
Exquisite matte green glaze. Condition is good with the exception of the long crack running the full length of one side and across the base. It goes all the way through front to back. The photos capture the full extent of the crack. Mug is 5 inches high, 4 inches wide at the base and 3 inches wide at the top. Thanks for your interest.
