Here is a really nice early Rookwood Pottery production paperweight of a turtle in a curdled matte green over red glaze. It measures 4 1/2 inches from head to tail, 3 1/2 inches wide, and about 2 1/4 inches tall. It is in great condition with no chips, cracks, repairs, or firing flaws, just some in the making clay shrinkage lines on the bottom. Marks include the RP die-stamped mark, IX for 1909, and shape number 1686. A nice early example of Rookwood's production art pottery.
