Original Description:
Wonderful original example of the iconic mechanical bank patented by the J. & E. Stevens Company in 1888!  Made in Cromwell, Connecticut, this particular Dark-Town Battery Bank is in excellent working condition and features its original paint with appropriate wear for being 130 years old.  All elements of the bank are present, no repairs or repaint and includes the original coin trap, reading ""Patd. Feb 2, 1875".  The piece measures 7.25" tall, 9.75" wide and 2.75" ...deep.  The reds, blues and yellows of the original paint are exceptional and present very well.  When the Stevens Company was promoting this bank, they described the mechanism in this way:
"Place a coin in the hand of the Pitcher, press the lever, and the coin is swiftly pitched.  As the Batter misses, it is safely deposited by the Catcher.  The movements of all the figures are very life like.  Nicely finished in fancy colors."
