Up for auction is a set of assorted new and used Parts for the 1943 ELGIN Model 600 Marine chronometer. Prototypes of the large-format Elgin 600 Marine chronometer were produced by the Elgin National Watch company under contract for the U.S. Navy just prior to the end of WWII. These parts are a small subset of those found in a fully assembled Elgin 600 chronometer clock.
Note that some of the parts have oxidation or residue which has accumulated from 75 years of storage
I... am not completely familiar with all of the parts in this lot, but a partial list of the pieces in this auction include:One unfinished, unmounted Bimetallic Balance Wheel
One Mainspring Barrel which is complete and the spring and barrel seem to be in working order.
5 x steel Fusee Winding Ratchet Wheel (the steel gears with 3 holes)
5 x steel Winding Setup Ratchet Wheel (the steel gears with 1 hole in center)
1 x canon pinion1 x Jeweled bar-shaped bridge with 2 mounting screws
8 x Minute hand2 x right-hand-side brass handle-stop fittings (for a box handle, which is not included)Basic Pillar plate and bridge plate
Items of key interest would be the difficult-to-find- Mainspring Barrel which is in working condition, and the unfinished Elgin 600 Bimetallic Balance Wheel which is a very scarce part. Some of the other parts would be useful in repairing or completing an Elgin 600 clock.
These Elgin Model 600 chronometer parts will be carefully packed, with USPS tracking provided for safe delivery.
