I have this fun Victorian era skirt lifter that is an original period piece. These were used for woman to hike up their skirt to keep their dress clean while getting into a carriage, while walking through dirt or mud, and once the bicycle came along they were important pieces of riding bicycles to keep your dress out of the wheels. This particular brass lifter has a tied twig/branch/stick, it is 5 1/4" long, hallmarked and stamped on the grip part and marked: PATENT/FYFE'S etc on the end of the ...grips. Looks to be in great overall condition as shown. Anyone know what the symbolism is, as in Irish or? My pics show both sides of the actual lifter/grip.
