Photo Album Belonging to the James Family of New Hampshire. New Hampshire: 1890-1900s. Cloth photo album binding measuring 7.25 x 4.75", conainting 36 albumen photos or silver gelatin prints, each measuring approximately 4.5 x 4". A piece of paper laid in reads "this album most likely belonged to Annie Mary Foster James mother of WHJ" aka Walter H. James. The album begins with interior and exterior images of the family homestead along Sagamore Creek in Portsmouth, followed by views of the New Ha...mpshire coastline, including Newcastle Light and Walbach Tower. Next are four interior and exterior images of the impressive home purchased by Walter H. James in Waltham, MA, followed by a portrait taken in front of Aunt Martha's house in Sharon, NH, a portrait taken at Cousin Lillie's in East Joffrey, N.H. The album ends with photos from a hiking trip up Mt. Monadnock as well as a series of images taken in Portsmouth, on the family farm, including pictures of livestock and pets. Fading to many of the images, with contents still legible, and around 15 images exhibit moderate to heavier fading. [6437]
