Original CDV of 18 year old Charles Harvey Coombs (Jan 1847 - March 30, 1866).
Signed on the back, "Chas. H. Coombs, Ft. Wayne, Ind".
This CDV is out of the same lot as the 88th Ohio Infantry soldiers I am selling
in separate listings, most of which were out of Camp Chase, however, the
photographer is G.W. Davis of Columbus, Ohio.
Records show that Coombs served in both the 189th & 193rd Ohio Infantry, and
another record lists him as a hos...pital steward. After the war he was briefly
a firefighter, a members of the Torrents Engine & Hose Co #3 in Fort Wayne.
He died very young in March 1866 - 19 years old - I could not find a record of
his death but I wonder if it was on the job as a fireman? He is buried at
Lindenwood Cemetery in Fort Wayne.
CDV is approximately 4" x 2 3/8"
