On October 22, 1918 near the end of World War I, Eddie Rickenbacker shot down a Fokker D VII near Clery-e-Petit France. The writing on the back of the photo seems to identify this photo as of that plane, "German Machine that Rickenbacker shot down Oct. 22, 1918 ". There are messages painted on the fuselage of the plane but I cannot read them. The photo shows a man in a naval uniform wit...h a small dog posing in front of the plane. Interesting old original snapshot, but not in sharp focus. Probably only one in existence. Ink writing at top of back may i.d. man in naval uniform. I would guess this is after the end of the war and the plane was a souvenir that made a great photo op.
5 1/2" x 3 3/8" photograph, focus of this snap shot is fuzzy, writing on back says in part, "German Machine that Rickenbacker shot down Oct. 22, 1918 ", light tanning on photo. The writing in pencil is notes I added, it will easily erase. All the original writing is in ink.
