This wood carved mask appears to be an old Ivory Coast Dan tribe ceremonial mask from Africa. It measures approximately 11" in length, 4" deep, and approximately 7" wide at its widest point (not including draping). Looks to be all hand crafted (weighs almost 1 pound) and looks to be painted black. The mask is adorned with a natural woven fiber head piece and white paint around the eyes. It is in what appears to be a old worn/used condition. The woven draping is in del...icate condition and has some damage. I have not cleaned this item in order to preserve the condition in which I acquired it. Please refer to photos for details. PLEASE READ: A little history on this item. I acquired a large collection of African wood carved arts about 3 years ago. The lot is composed of masks, statues, combs, a spoon, and a antelope head piece. I know very little about these items, where they originally came from, how old they are, and how they were used. My descriptions are based on light research that I have done on the internet. All I really know is that before I acquired them, I was told that they had been sitting in storage for many years and were part of a larger collection that was divided.
