This unique wood carved mask appears to be an old Ivory Coast Baule or Kran tribe ceremonial mask from Africa. It measures approximately 15" in length, 5" deep, and approximately 7" wide at its widest point. Looks to be all hand crafted (weighs a little over 3 pounds) and looks to be either patinaed or painted brown. The mask is carved with 5 horns, a beaked nose, and high cheekbones. It has remnants of a red fabric that once adorned the eye areas. It is in what appears to be a good ol...d condition with wear from age and some wood cracks. I have not cleaned this item in order to preserve the condition in which I acquired it. Please refer to photos for details. PLEASE READ: A little history on this item. I acquired a large collection of African wood carved arts about 3 years ago. The lot is composed of masks, statues, combs, a spoon, and a antelope head piece. I know very little about these items, where they originally came from, how old they are, and how they were used. My descriptions are based on light research that I have done on the internet. All I really know is that before I acquired them, I was told that they had been sitting in storage for many years and were part of a larger collection that was divided.
