MAJOR PRICE REDUCTION
This listing is for an Alaska Eskimo Ivory Harpoon - Ca 100 BC - St. Lawrence Island, Alaska. I bought this from an American Indian show and sale 20 years ago. I was an avid Alaska fisherman for around 30 years and I collected just about anything having to do with fishing. Now that I have reached an old age it's time for someone else enjoy these things I have collected over many years.
I believe this was sold at an auction prior to my buyin...g it. The display box and photograph appears to come from an auction. I believe the numbered tag was the auction number. The description mounted inside the box, center bottom, is faded but here is what it says:
"#181 - Harpoon, Walrus Ivory. Eskimo, Chuik Pd. CA 100 BC. Walnut colored patina. Excavated at Savoonga, St. Lawrence Island, Alaska".
This pierce had an estimated value of $185.00. I have it listed for less than halk of that.
I have quite a few other Alaska ivory pieces and I believe most of them are from St. Lawrence Island. And Savoonga is mentioned as a place where a lot of carvers are located.
