Glued to the front paste-down are samples of the cloth & leather spine options, after ffep, frontis has been removed, after title page, it runs continuously until p. xxxii (end of contents), then is Chap. I, followed by excerpts from the book with illustrations. Then follows 8 pages of 'Testimony fro...m high authorities' (reviews), a one-page description of the low-priced version, a 2 page ' List of eminent subscribers' and 16 pages of facsimile of autograph orders from the first subscribers. The last 10 or so pages of these (after the 16) have been removed. All together this clothbound book is only 1/2 inch thick, so obviously it is just a sampling of the 653 page book. It contains color plates I - VI (6 plates) & 16 B & W full-page illustrations. 6 X 8 inches high. Maroon cloth with gilt lettering & decoration on cover. Condition of book is GOOD; Small hole in ffep, one B & W illustration removed (& frontis), plus facsimile pages removed at rear. Text & illustrations are very clean, binding is tight. No dj. A curiosity. A wonderful work, well worth preserving.This will be a valued addition to any library of learning.
